Modeling Makes the Difference

JBHM Education Group specialists use modeling extensively to help principals and teachers gain proficiency in the practices that directly relate to student achievement. As professional partners in improvement, we work alongside school personnel to model practices that convey respect for students and high expectations for their conduct and achievement. Through principal mentoring, we demonstrate how to assure an orderly, safe school environment; protect learning time; observe and provide constructive suggestions teachers welcome; and increase support where it is needed. Through teacher coaching, we demonstrate how to plan and pace lessons to meet required curriculum objectives, increase student participation in active learning, accurately assess student progress, and follow up with alternate instructional strategies. As school personnel build their skills, they gradually assume the responsibilities that we have shared as their partners in improvement. Throughout the process, weekly work reports keep superintendents abreast of the progress schools are making in fully implementing the essential practices.
